CA never was getting much money, they were shoveling ax dollars at all the start-ups, and few of them pay taxes. People think Apple is headquartered in Cupertino - sure it has a lot of buildings and they just got the state/county/city to build some more highways and off-ramps. But their official headquarters is a PO box in Nevada, they don't pay local taxes here.
They did however, offer the Cupertino middle school students iPads at a $50 discount. Half the school buildings are mobile homes on cinder blocks, they did away with their art program a decade ago.
