No matter how much force you apply at the axis, you won’t move the needle — simple physics. By analogy, no matter how much money they spend on expensive HR diversity programs in their Mountain View or Menlo Park offices, they can’t move their diversity needle. They have to get out there, to the tip so to speak, and teach young kids of all educationally underserved backgrounds how to code, and by reaching in, show people of all backgrounds that they will be welcome once they are in.
And who exactly should be doing this teaching? All the existing engineers should be involved, without further burdening the few minority engineers who are already in.
