This is something I learned to do from Gloria Steinem, Rebecca Solnit, you and others who’ve written about the unspoken word “white” — every time I read one of the words “man” or “boy” when it is unqualified by a racial or ethnic adjective, I add the word “white” to it and it rings so much truer!
