The vagueness is intentional, it allows white males or whoever is dominant to continue to practice gender-based and racially discriminatory hiring and pay policies, and stay in their cultural comfort zones (“I am great, so it stands to reason that people like me are great.”). They may even believe they are non-discriminatory (“After all, we are just asking everybody to do minimum 3 pull-ups and go to Hardly Strictly White People’s Music.”) and they may even believe it is in the best interests of their company’s bottom line (“I (helped make) made this company what it is, so the more of me, the better.”).
